Level Ground Mennonite Church’s exists to be a welcoming community of grace and transformation that connects people to God and one another. We are comprised of just over 200 people from many walks of life, located in Abbotsford, British Columbia.
Level Ground was formed by the joining of two congregations; Wellspring Christian Fellowship and West Abbotsford Mennonite Church. It began meeting together in September 2008 and officially launched the new congregation in January 2009. Level Ground is part of Mennonite Church British Columbia
The name Level Ground Mennonite Church was chosen to remind us that the ground is level at the foot of the cross. As Ephesians 3 reads: “The mystery is that people who have never heard of God and those who have heard of him all their lives (what I’ve been calling outsiders and insiders) stand on the same ground before God. They get the same offer, same help, same promises in Christ Jesus. The Message is accessible and welcoming to everyone, across the board.” All people, regardless of past failures or accomplishments, wealth or poverty, age, gender, race, and upbringing share in the same grace, all need the same forgiveness and trust in the same unconditional love from God; we want to be a community which stands together on level ground, unified by the amazing grace we experience in Christ.
Level Ground Mennonite Church is part of a larger family of churches who have an Anabaptist understanding of the Christian faith. “Anabaptist” is an invented name meaning “re-baptizers.” It was given to Christians who, during the 16th-century Reformation, rejected infant baptism, and instead baptized each other as adults upon confession of faith. Anabaptist/Mennonite Christians hold many beliefs in common with other believers. Three key statements that profoundly affect our believing, belonging and behaving are:
